CCC CCPA #10007742, Counselling Therapist ACTA #2047, Certified Art Therapist, Equine Facilitated Wellness Dual Certification Candidate
Ashley Underhill has a masters in counselling specializing in art therapy. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor, Counselling Therapist, Certified Art Therapist, and is currently completing her dual certification as an Equine Professional and Mental Health Professional through the Professional Association of Equine Facilitated Wellness Pro-EFW.
Ashley also has a certified therapy dog, Phil, also known as Dr. Phil, who loves participating in sessions with adults, youth, and children.
Throughout her years as a therapist, Ashley’s areas of specialization focused on working with populations affected by domestic violence, PTSD, complex trauma, high conflict separations, and ADHD. Her client population includes children, youth, and adults.
Ashley has 1000s of hours working with equines in ranching, horsemanship, training, instructional, and recreational ways. Therefore, the integration of horses within her therapy practices was a natural process.
In addition to integrating horses and her therapy dog within sessions, Ashley works from an attachment based framework and integrates multiple modalities such as internal family systems, emotion-focused, compassion-focused, art therapy, play-based interventions, and solution-focused therapy.
She feels honored to be welcomed into her client’s experiences and be a part of their movement towards hope and healing.

Hi, I am glad you’re here!
Being part of your healing journey would be an honour. I believe each person is inherently valuable and deserves support, wherever they are in life. Relatedly, I hope to create a space where you can be authentically yourself without feeling judged and work toward a fulfilling future that centers on your perspectives, needs, and strengths.
How will we get there? I work from a holistic perspective, meaning I believe many parts of you – mind, body, emotions, spirit, relationships, and culture – influence your experiences in life and our work. We can explore the parts that feel most important to you, but I may also encourage you to expand your focus to other areas. I primarily use narrative, solution-focused, and mindfulness therapeutic approaches. Maybe there will be a few laughs along the way, too! I am passionate about creating a transparent and personable approach to therapy that fits you, so I will consistently check in on how we are working together.
I would love to get to know you and how we can work together; whether that is one session to work through a primary concern, more lengthy support, or something in-between!
I understand the upfront costs for therapy can be a barrier, so I offer direct billing through Telus Health and GreenShield.

I am a Registered Psychologist with The College of Alberta Psychologists. I am trained and certified as a Therapeutic Play Practitioner with The Rocky Mountain Play Institute. I work with children and families suffering from anxiety, depression, family transitions (divorce, separation), domestic violence, grief, and developmental trauma. As said best by Gary Landreth: “Toys are children’s words and play is their language”.
I am also trained and experienced working with individuals (children, adolescents, and adults) suffering from domestic abuse and relational trauma. I have worked as a domestic violence therapist in central Alberta over the past two years, and recognize the significant need in our area for therapeutic support. At Tides Center I aspire to create a safe haven for my clients and their families.

Tides Counselling has been birthed as a result of a few of my passions melding over years of specialized experience. As a former midwife and nurse in Belfast, I have brought my dedication as a midwife together with my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy to assist individuals, couples, and families who are struggling specifically with perinatal trauma. My love of the ocean and its healing waves gives each of us the hope of changing tides.
Governing Body: Member of The Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta. Associated member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
